Smudge Maintenance

I'm currently fixing the smudge so it will always be in the same place at all screen resolutions (well, at least most screen resolutions), so if you see two smudges or any other weirdness, that's what's going on. I'll probably have it fixed within an hour, at which time the weirdness will cease. So don't worry.

(Edit: the smudge has finally been fixed. My apologies to all of you with 1024px-wide screens who must have been wondering why I put that smudge in such a tacky location! XD)

Next to come will be a little something to spruce up the background in order to complete my original vision of the blog's appearance.

Tyrian World Map

Whew, it's been a while since I posted, hasn't it? I'll use the classic generic excuse that I was busy, and hopefully you can forgive me. I know, it's pretty unoriginal compared to all the stuff I'm coming up with for Tyrian, but you'll just have to bear with me. Stuff happens.

Anyway, today I went and drew up a pretty elaborate world map complete with different biomes and major rivers; the equator and the two tropic lines are also there if you look closely. I guess I could have done a little bit more, like adding mountains and whatnot, but for now I think it's more than enough. I may put the mountains on another map, using the outline from this one as a base, though I don't think I'm quite ready for a political map. I don't have all the countries worked out yet. XD

So, there's the world. (What a wonderful place!)

It probably will end up with more little tiny islands later, but I thought that was plenty. After all, islands are like pepper—you don't want to go randomly shaking them all over everything and ruin the main course. And yes, there's a tundra at the equator... you're not imagining things. It's the Artifices' doing.

Feel free to use this as a desktop wallpaper, though it'll probably work better if you tell Windows to put #a6a5ec behind it considering the irregular size. Or your favourite shade of indigo/violet. Whatever you like.

Tyrian Music

Being who I am, it would only figure that I'd get cool theme songs for my characters done before I'd figured out how to draw them consistently. So, I thought I might as well post them here! Maybe I'll make a page just for theme music later, though I think I'll wait until I have at least a few more songs first.

Click the links to go to the download pages; the mids are hosted externally. I make them with abc2midi and jEdit (plus a fancy batch file to automate the midi generation and play the output for me), in case you're wondering.

You can also listen to these songs online at my Photobucket page!

Origin of the Name

I'm sure many of you are probably wondering exactly what this blog is about, what that crazy name means, and why the Saralya it's all shady and gloomy. Well, whether you are or not, here's why!

This site, sangkara.tk, is where I'm going to announce updates to Tyrian, a manga series that I've had in planning for about a year or two now. (A manga, for the uninitiated, is a Japanese-style right-to-left graphic novel typically serialised weekly by the chapter first and then in bound collections of about two months' worth of chapters.) Although I was too busy living life then to get to the stuff that really gave it meaning, and never got any actual chapters done, I'm gradually getting more attached to this story and think I might be able to make some time for it in the near future.

Tyrian is basically going to be a hybrid plot/gag manga (predominately plot, but with a lot of crazy randomosity, too) revolving around a sort of ongoing battle between sincerity and absurdity that begins after a society of subjectivist lunatics swamps the world with all manner of peculiar paradoxes, physics violations, and disturbances. Girders start levitating, pigeons start doing the communist salute, and water starts flowing uphill, among other things—and nobody seems to be doing anything to stop it, or even commenting on how bizarre any of it is. What in the world's going on?!

Tyrian, our indigo-haired hero, is seemingly powerless to stop any of this, except for the fact that he has an unusual ally: a creepy, nightmarish shadow-dragon named Anyokurou that seems to be trapped inside him by some mysterious force. Though rather grumpy and anti-social, he has an extremely useful ability: the Sangkara.

The Sangkara almost evades description, but essentially it gives Anyokurou the power to alter reality in any way that would turn out physically-possible, allowing him to revert all the rampant nonsense (if he so chooses, of course). Though the amount of things he can alter at one time seem to be somewhat limited, it can be incredibly powerful.

Of course, there always has to be a catch... and the catch here is that Anyokurou's extremely stingy with his super-special ability and never wants to use it. Hello? We're in the middle of a crisis here! Why don't you want to use your super-cool whatchamacallit?!

Well, he must have his reasons, whatever they are... but in the mean time, it's definitely not going to be easy to face an organisation whose members can turn rifles into carrots or deserts into tundras by any means.

...Yeah. Though I can't give you a set date on when the first chapter will be out, I know it's going to be awesome when I get it done, and that it'll be announced here at Sangkara. For the time being, though, you can always check out my deviantART account for concept drawings and whatnot, and as always, salutate unicornem!

Yay, Valenth spam! XD

Here are a bunch of Valenth adoptables I've facetiously named after characters that are planned to appear in my manga. If you have nothing better to do, you can click them if you like.

31/12/2014 edit: Valenth is dead, so all the images in this post irrevocably broke. I replaced the the images that were the rest of this post with the ones I saved, which should be most of them.

Also here are a couple Stablehand-named ones.

Wang BaihuShadow

(Fun fact: Shadow here, its name being the adoptable's "canon name", was the inspiration for Stablehand Shadow.)

Aaaand an old OC.

Servaki

Honourable mention to Ounce, one of my favourites, and O, which reminded me a hell of a lot of a name-glitched character in an old monstergame bootleg.

Hello world

Hi there. I've had the idea to start up a blog for updates on my planned manga (Tyrian) for some time now, but I've never really gotten the idea off the ground to any serious extent. Maybe this time will be different?

Well, in any event, I'll post stuff here when I've got it. Stay tuned.
